The Hexagon is a unique and extremely efficient use of space. Living organisms often organise themselves into angles of 120 degrees, the internal angle of a hexagon. The Devils postpile in Northern California is an awesome example of the way intense pressure is met with the tensile strength of the hexagon. The light spectrum is a narrow set of visible wavelengths that humans perceive as visual reality. When the suns white light refracts through raindrops at an angle of 42 degrees, we can see that white light splay out into the Full Spectrum of light in a majestic display of nature’s beauty. When the full spectrum of our sun’s light is set free by the magical angle of 42 degrees we are treated to one of nature’s most friendly and uniquely phenomena. The rainbow. The idea was to combine a very strong natural form with a natural phenomenon in a playful “retro futuristic” style. The overarching aim is to create a walk through installation that celebrates strength through diversity.
