Taramea Bay - the beautiful bay where we will stay for the weekend
Learn how to really drive that iPhone camera of yours and take images that are stunning enough to stop viewers scrolling! Your smart phone camera is full of amazing features and during this weekend you will discover what those features do and how best to use them. This will be practical hands on learning as we have so much inspiration right on our doorstep. You will learn the basic fundamentals of photography including composition, light management, and several tricks to make your images stand out. Weather dependent we will capture sunsets and sunrises, Photo walking will be tool we use to slow down and recognise the beauty that can be captured at any time. We will also have a session on food photography paired with our cooking demonstration so you will never be disappointed with the photos you end up with and won’t find yourself saying, “it doesn’t look as good in the photo”, it will look even better in your photos!
Some of you may have already been on the iphoneography the essentials course with Leigh, if so this weekend will refresh some of your learnings but take your photography to the next level and beyond. If you have no experience or if you have some photography experience then this weekend is designed for you. If you just love taking photos then you will love this opportunity and we will fill up your camera roll! We will only be a small group so there will be plenty of time for one-on-one learning in a very relaxed and fun environment.
Included in the weekend is your food starting with Friday evening nibbles through to breakfast on Sunday. The southern part of New Zealand produces some of New Zealands most amazing produce and we will be utilising this during our weekend together. A weekend off cooking! We will be aiming to inspire you with some interesting food creations that we get to photograph and then enjoy.
Southern fare!
We will be staying beach front at Riverton Rocks in a new Cape Cod inspired holiday home with lots of space for everyone to relax. Great elevated beach front site with a view you can lose yourself in all day. This home is beautiful inside and out and may even be hard for us to leave for our photo walks! There will be options for shared rooms and also individual rooms at a small premium (limited supply of these). This will be a place you will want to come back to again.
Soak up those views from our stunning accommodation
Described by many as the Riviera of the South, this seaside town on the southern South Island coast of Aotearoa is one of the most popular towns in Western Southland. Popular for many holiday makers and for those wanting to enjoy the water activities that the ocean brings. Taramea Bay and Mitchells Bay are safe for swimming and when the wave comes into Mitchells Bay the surfers from beginners to old timers are out there catching them often with the dolphins playing alongside. From beache to native bush walks we are spoilt for photography inspiration in this awesome little town.
Riverton is only 30kms from Invercargill so if you are travelling to us from further than a car ride Invercargill Airport would be your stop. If you are travelling from the Central Otago area Riverton is 2.5 hour car journey from Queenstown.

Then come along! The best camera you have is the one you have with you. There have been plenty of Android users learn with Leigh, all of them have left happy and better users of their cameras than they previously were. The content is written with an iPhone in mind but the functions are all quite similar on android. The workshop sessions covering photography fundamentals are applicable no matter what camera you are using.
Contact Leigh or Sarah - give us a call, text, email, DM with any questions or to secure you spot on this special weekend, we will send you everything you need.

If you have a group of 6-8 talk to us about a bespoke retreat at a date of your choice.
We are a pretty inclusive bunch but there are a few things that will be over to you:
your transport to and from Riverton
optional surf or paddle board lessons - we can organise for you but this will be an additional fee
zipping along to the Beach House cafe for coffees - cafe treats will be extra
alcohol - we are happy to organise for you or BYO is fine
We are based in Arrowtown, Central Otago but Riverton holds a special place for both of us. We have been friends for over 20 years and have a mutual love for the outdoors, first meeting while snowboarding in Colorado - we still ride the chairlifts together and in the summers we (try) and ride the waves together. Leigh works as a freelance photographer and iphoneography teacher and Sarah runs her own business in Arrowtown with years of experience hosting guests all over the world AND she is a very clever foodie. Please feel free to contact either of us if you have any questions that we haven’t covered off above.
